Obituary for Arlene Isabelle Ledger
Arlene Isabelle Ledger, age 82, of Rock Township, WI, and resident of St. Elizabeth Manor for the past several years, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care in Janesville, surrounded by her family. Arlene was born on March 23, 1933, in Marshfield, WI, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Weiss) Hardinger. She married Robert Joseph Ledger on June 28, 1952, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield. Arlene was a graduate of UW Rock County and worked at Wright's Photography and Hall's Studio as a color artist. She also worked as a substitute teacher, was a watercolor instructor at the Janesville Senior Center and was a day care provider for numerous grandchildren. In addition, Arlene, Bob and their family operated the Wild Wood Nursery for many years. She was a volunteer at Rotary Gardens, a 4-H art leader for 20 years, a designer of the Janesville Peace Park and was on the Shade Tree Advisory Board. Arlene's memberships include St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ted Hollister Bird Club, Rock County Conservation Club and Moose Lodge 197. Arlene was a talented artist, a loving mother and devoted grandmother, and she loved the color purple. Survivors include her seven children: Catherine Sager of Janesville, David (Mary) Ledger of Beloit, Ruth (David) Hintze of Janesville, Robert (Tyra) Ledger of Evansville, Jeanette (Trygve) Danielson of Orfordville, Mark (Connie) Ledger of Edgerton, and Matt (Keith Johnson) Ledger of Albany; fifteen grandchildren: Erica, Robyn, Ryan, Michael, Nic, Ruthie, Sara, Jake, Daniel, Kyle, Katie, Maggie, Cassie, Lucas and Claire; eight great-grandchildren: Tessa, Naomi, Reid, Cole, Annabelle, Mikayla, Kaylee and Isabelle. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bob, Arlene was preceded in death by five siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 315 Cherry St., Janesville, with Fr. Thomas Marr presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Hansen Funeral Home, 211 S. Main St., Janesville, and also from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Janesville. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Arlene's name may be made to St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville or Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care, Janesville.
