Obituary for Edith M. Shepherd
Edith M. Shepherd, age 94, of Fort Atkinson, WI, died Friday, December 13, 2013, at her home. She was born on April 30, 1919, in Beloit, WI, the daughter of William Francis and Emma Louise (Fuess) Allen. Edith had worked at Freeman Shoe and also as a waitress, a bar owner, and as a clerk at Schultz Brothers in Richland Center, WI. She married Les Gaserude in 1936 in Rockford, Illinois. She later married Gilbert Shepherd in 1984 in Dubuque, Iowa. Gilbert died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Ron (Kathie) Gaserude of Jefferson, WI; three grandchildren: Dennis Gaserude of Belleville, WI; Patti (Dale) Dalby of Fort Atkinson; Donald (Maureen) Gaserude of Fort Atkinson; three great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Anderson of Beloit; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gilbert, Edith was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann Gaserude; a brother, Harland "Shorty" Allen; two sisters, Grace Swain and Arlene Underhill; one great-grandchild, Megan Marie Dalby-Peterson; and a great-great grandchild, Aiden Mitchell Yanke.
A funeral service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Janesville, with Reverend David Ewing officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Fancy Creek Cemetery in the Town of Marshall, Richland County, WI, with a 2 p.m. committal service there. Memorials in Edith's memory may be made to Rainbow Hospice, Jefferson.
