Obituary for Gerald E. Waldsmith
Gerald Emil Waldsmith, age 81, of Janesville, WI, died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Gerry was born November 25, 1933, in Henrietta Township, Richland County, WI, the son of Buford and Iva (Schoonover) Waldsmith. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1951, serving in North Africa. Gerry married Marilyn Virginia Sailing July 7, 1956, in Beloit and embraced the entire Sailing family as his own. He worked many years for the City of Beloit and Seneca Foods in the maintenance department. Gerry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Janesville. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marilyn of Janesville; three daughters: Cheryl Waldsmith (Paul Steinke), Kathy Waldsmith and Sheila (John) Demeny, all of Janesville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his beloved sister, Geneva Gamble of Waco, TX; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Gerry was predeceased by two brothers, Marvin and Arnold Waldsmith. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Eastlawn Cemetery, 2200 Milwaukee Road, Beloit, with Fr. Sanctus Ibe presiding. Military honors will be accorded by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post #1621. Memorials may be made to the family. Hansen Funeral Home, Janesville, 608-752-8800, is assisting the family.
