Obituary for Thomas Burke Ryan
Thomas Burke Ryan, age 80, of Janesville, WI, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Janesville. Tom had been under home-care with the assistance of Agrace Hospice and Senior Services-Gap Program since December, for which the family is very grateful. Tom was born April 5, 1935, in Janesville, the son of Wilbert Edmund and Esther Ellen (Connelly) Ryan. He married Margaret Delap on December 27, 1957, they later divorced. Tom later married Sue Ann Stevens on December 18, 1991, at Faith Community Church in Janesville. He was in the Army Reserves and served his country in Korea. Tom was a man of many talents and interests. In addition to being a pilot, he was an Aircraft and Engine Mechanic, crop sprayer, owned and operated several gas stations and wrecker services, was a welder and a gas and diesel engine mechanic. Tom was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Antique Airplane Association, the MAAC in Brodhead and Reservoir Ministries in Clinton, WI. Tom is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Ryan of Janesville; five children: Dawn Ryan Becker of Wayzata, MN; Christopher (Janet) Ryan of Janesville; John (Linda) Ryan of Onalaska, WI; Brigitte (James) Swarbrick of Ft. Pierce, FL; Elizabeth McIntyre of Janesville; two step-daughters: Kristie (Dennis) Letcher; Tamie (Alan Soper) Nelson, both of Janesville; 13 grandchildren: Sarah (Josh), Ryan, Sean, Megan, Maureen, Jack, Lydia, Matthew, Stephanie, Benjamin, Paige, Amelia, Dennis III, and one on the way; one great-granddaughter, Hannah; a sister, Mary Therese (Kenneth) Thompson of Chicago; a brother, Joseph Ryan of Ewa Beach, HI; father-in-law, Thomas E. Stevens of Janesville; brother-in-law, Richard Gagan; many nieces and nephews, and his special pet, Kookie Kat. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Gagan and Philomena Higgs, a brother, Patrick Ryan, mother-in-law, Doris Stevens, and sister-in-law, Emy Ryan. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015, at Hansen Funeral Home, 211 S. Main St., Janesville, 608-752-8800, with Pastor Russell Olsen officiating. Memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post #1621. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Janesville. Online condolences may be made at www.hansenfh.com
