Obituary for Thomas J. Vickerman
Thomas James Vickerman, age 83, of Janesville, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at home. He was born October 8, 1929, in Lima Township, Rock County, Wisconsin, the son of William E. and Alice (Doheny) Vickerman. Tom was a graduate of St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee and ordained for the Madison Diocese on May 14, 1955. He was the sexton at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Janesville for many years. Tom married Faith Russell on August 27, 1973, in Janesville. He was a well-read individualist with an appreciation for history, as well as a love of books and nature.
Survivors include his wife, Faith Vickerman of Janesville; five children: Christina Vickerman of Janesville; Alice Vickerman of Madison, WI; Camillus Vickerman of Janesville; Deirdre Vickerman (William Burn) of Dunwoody, GA; Brigid Vickerman (Aron Carr) of Madison, WI; three granddaughters: Arielle Cabrera, Maya Vanchugova, Emily Kleczek; and four siblings: Helen (Bud) Schultz of Abbottsford, WI; Rose Frittitta of Fort Atkinson, WI; Anne Entringer of Baytown, TX; Frank (Lucille) Vickerman of Milton, WI. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by four sisters: Alice McNall, Catherine Stehle, Genevieve Augustine, Margaret Shaw; and four brothers: John, Joseph, William and James Vickerman.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 313 E. Wall St., Janesville, with Fr. Stephen Umhoefer presiding. Memorial visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Green-Rock Audubon Society.
