Obituary for Dorothy Mae Pierson
Dorothy Mae Pierson, age 74, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Rock Haven Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin, on October 26, 1939, the daughter of Donald and Helen (Attlesey) Granzow. She was a 1957 graduate of Evansville High School. Dorothy married Riley "Rip" Pierson on May 26, 1962, in Rockford, IL. Riley passed away July 21, 2010. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking and especially spending time with her family, who was her world. Dorothy lit up when her grandchildren entered the room.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Suzanne (Russell) Stephenson of Kansas City, MO, Lisa (David) Smith of Janesville, Duane (Melinda) Pierson of Sun Prairie, WI; five grandchildren: Ryan and Hannah Smith, Katie and Kelly Stephenson, Tyler Pierson; a brother, Donald Granzow of Janesville; and two nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Riley, Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Duane.
Private interment will be at Milton Lawns Cemetery in Janesville. Because of Dorothy's and her family's deep gratitude for the care given by Mercy Hospice, donations may be made in her name to that organization. Dorothy's family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the caring staff at Rock Haven, the staff of Mercy Hospice (especially Carrie & Kathy), and Dr. Alethea Poste and Dr. Suhail Shaikh, for all they have done for Dorothy and her family during her illness.
