Obituary for Joseph Roderick Brazil, Jr.
Joseph Roderick Brazil, Jr., age 80, formerly of Janesville, died Tuesday morning, October 23, 2012, at Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove, WI. Joe was born December 30, 1931, in Jamestown, RI, the son of Joseph R. Brazil Sr. and Mary S. (Lopes) Merritt. He married Evelyn Gertrude Berndt on July 12, 1952, at West Point, NY; she passed away October 1, 1997. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from April 27, 1950 to February 5, 1960. He had been employed in Janesville at City Key and Glass and Sultze Printing. Joe loved to volunteer at the Janesville Public Library, he enjoyed reading and talking about military history.
Survivors include three children: Joe (Cindi) Brazil, III of Janesville; Sandy (Wayne) Thompson of Franklin, TN; Jonathan (Cailyn) Brazil of Janesville; eight grandchildren: Haley and Hannah Brazil, Christopher (Jennifer) Brazil, Noah Thompson, Brandon Brazil, Brittany (Jesse) Nieman, Bradley Brazil, Brianne Brazil (Jake Miller); nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben (Vickey) Merritt of Texas; and a sister, Jane (John) Mills of Florida. In addition to his parents and his wife, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Stella Micelli.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012, at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Chapel, 2200 Milton Ave., Janesville, with entombment to follow. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 1618 E. Racine St., Janesville, with a Video Tribute presented at 6:45 p.m. There will also be a visitation from 10: 30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service on Monday at Milton Lawns. Military honors to be provided by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post 1621. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Memorial at Traxler Park, Janesville.
