Obituary for Nancy June Smithback
Nancy June Smithback, age 81, of Janesville, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Nancy was born in Janesville on June 1, 1933, the daughter of Jack C. and Elvey M. Nancy had been employed as a waitress for many years at various area restaurants, including the Alpine and the Oasis. She also worked at Accudyne and Dana Corp. Nancy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she helped Sister Lucentia in her ministry.

Survivors include three children: Kelly Smithback, Kerry (LeRoy) Punzel, Kevin (Emily) Smithback, all of Janesville; six grandchildren: J.T. Smithback, Alexandria Savage, Jerrica Smithback, Kristi (Keith) Dahlgren, Carmen Schober, Kelly (Ricky) Morris; and seven great-grandchildren: Jordan, Dawson, Jayda, Sam, Ireland, Delaney and Molly. In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by two brothers, John Hanley, and Jerry Hanley in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. noon on Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 315 Cherry St, Janesville, with Fr. James Kuhn presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Janesville. Hansen Funeral Home, Janesville, 608-752-8800, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hansenfh.com

Mom loved to cook, bake, sew, crochet, do charity work, loved playing cards, shopping, eating out, and being Irish Catholic. But the most important thing in life to her were her three children, her grandchildren (she was especially close to her grandson Johnathan) and all of her friends who she always treated like family. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

"If Roses Grow in Heaven"
If roses grow in heaven, Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mother's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there's an ache within my heart that will never go away.
