Obituary for Leonard W. Brunsell
Leonard William Brunsell, age 73, of Janesville, WI, died Saturday, November 12, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Leonard was born on May 23, 1943, in Janesville, the son of Mark Hall and Beatrice Vivian (Anderson) Brunsell. He grew up in rural Evansville on the family farm, attended Pleasant Prairie Country School, Evansville Public Schools and graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1960. Leonard married Karen Rae Breiby on November 13, 1965, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Janesville. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1966. Leonard retired from General Motors, working mainly in the Paint Department for 38 years, and was a member of UAW #95. In earlier years, he was an avid runner and member of the Rock Runners. Leonard was very proud of his long-time association with AA and the many friends he made through it. Leonard enjoyed traveling and felt lucky to have gone to Europe several times, visiting his American Field Service children and their families.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Karen, of Janesville; two daughters, Dawn Wehrwein (Jay Jordan) and Lynn Brunsell (Jim Walker); one grandson, Kyle Wehrwein, all of Janesville; AFS daughter, Patty Van Keer Flanagan (Jeff) and their daughters, Maeve and Wendy of Rhode Island; AFS son, Gabor Baranyi (Szilvia) and their daughter, Anna, of Hungary; his brother, David (Carol) Brunsell of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Deb Brunsell, of Olive Branch, MS; his nieces, Julie Faella, Teresa Inkmann, Tracey Brunsell; and many cousins and innumerable friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents and grandparents, Leonard was predeceased by a brother, Norman Brunsell.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Hansen Funeral Home, 211 S. Main Street, Janesville, with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m., led by Sister Ruth Brings. A Committal Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Mount Olivet Mausoleum Chapel, 1827 N. Washington St, Janesville, with Fr. Rob Butz presiding. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, Janesville, or the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Hansen Funeral Home, Janesville, 608-752-8800, is assisting the family.
