Obituary for Melvin Edward "Mel" Cunningham, Sr.
Melvin Edward "Mel" Cunningham, Sr., age 84, of Janesville, WI, died Wednesday morning, October 1, 2014, at home. Mel was born in Eastman, WI, on August 19, 1930, the son of Earl and Mildred (Heisz) Cunningham. He married Mona Eileen Tieman on June 9, 1954, in Eau Claire, WI. Mel was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving from February 19, 1952 to February 10, 1954. He had worked at Ladish Company in Milwaukee from 1955 to 1962 and also as a machinest at Wisconsin Centrifical in Waukesha, WI, for 25 years, from 1962 to 1987. Mel and Mona enjoyed playing cards with their friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Cunningham of Janesville; four children: Cheryl (Peter) Hall of Janesville; Melvin E. "Butch" (Donna) Cunningham, Jr., of Bradenton, FL; Earl (Gina) Cunningham of Waukesha; Charles Cunningham of Murfreesboro, TN; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Pease of Waukesha. In addition to his parents, Mel is predeceased by a daughter, Debbey Nicosia, and a sister, Fern Bieganek.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2014, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Janesville, with Rev. Ridley N. Usherwood, chaplain for Home Health United Hospice, officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Monday at the chapel. Burial with Military Honors provided by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post 1621, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
